Distance Education – course prerequisites

Prerequisites applicable to all ISFM and iCatCare courses

Learners should have basic computer skills. Learners are required to complete and submit assessments electronically, and so a basic understanding of Microsoft Office (or equivalent) including Microsoft Word is useful.

Due to the distance learning nature of our courses, you must have regular access to a device with internet access.

You must have a good understanding of English. All course notes and assessments are in English and your answers must be in English. We encourage overseas learners to sign up for our courses, and although we will take into account that English is not a first language, you should still have a good understanding of the English language.

On-demand courses prerequisites

Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional:

To enrol on this course, you must be a qualified nurse, technician or vet or be studying towards qualification.

Cat Friendly Veterinary Receptionist:

To enrol on this course, you must be working in veterinary practice as a receptionist, practice manager or other veterinary practice support role.

Getting to know your cat – an introduction to cat behaviour:

This course is open to anyone who has an interest in cats.

Cat Care for Life: An Introduction to Feline Health:

This course is open to anyone who has an interest in cats.

Advanced Feline Dentistry for Veterinary Nurses:

To enrol on this course you must be a qualified nurse, technician or vet.

Interactive Feline Dentistry, Interactive Feline Endocrinology

To enrol on these course you must be a qualified vet.

Tutor-led courses prerequisites

Certificate, Diploma or Foundation Diploma in Feline Nursing:

To enrol on this course, you must be a qualified nurse/technician or be studying towards qualification.

Cat Behavioural Health Practitioner Programme:

Module 1: Understanding cats inside and out

To enrol on this module you must be working with or for cats. Examples include (but are not limited to):
  • Veterinary professional e.g. (nurse/technician, vet, veterinary care assistant, veterinary receptionist)
  • Employees or volunteers at homing centres (also known as shelters, rehoming or rescue centres)
  • Employees at boarding catteries or cat hotels
  • Cat sitters
  • Groomers
  • Breeders
  • Pet industry employees (e.g. pet food companies, pet product companies, pet insurance)
  • Clinical animal behaviourists, Animal Behaviour Technician, Animal Training Instructor or Animal Trainer (looking to improve their cat expertise) or those studying towards these roles

Becoming a Cat Friendly Homing Centre

This course is offered to those working, volunteering or managing a cat welfare organisation, that homes pet cats. The organisation may be of any size.
