Cat Care for Life, is a new initiative from International Cat Care and its veterinary division the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM). This preventative healthcare programme promotes a partnership of care between cat owners and their veterinary clinics for the lifelong health of their cat. It is a blueprint for how a clinic and owner can work together to keep cats healthy and encourage regular preventative healthcare checks.

The programme is aimed at both veterinary clinics and cat owners and has its own dedicated website.

For cat owners

Cat owners have a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of their cat. By undertaking routine preventive healthcare, through all stages – from kittens through to old age – owners can ensure their cat stays as healthy as possible. They can also prevent problems arising or maximise the chance of early detection of any illness, when much more can be done. The Cat Care for Life website guides owners through the healthcare their cat should be receiving based on its life stage.

For vets and nurses

The Cat Care for Life website provides veterinary clinics with a range of free practical guides to the programme. It defines the life stages of cats, along with recommended best practice guides for recommended health checks, and advice on when health problems are likely to occur. The information is set out simply but it has taken many years of treating cats and gathering information on disease to devise a good health plan!

This programme is provided in partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim, IDEXX and Royal Canin.
