The International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) is holding two feline symposia ahead of the 2018 BSAVA Congress – its regular and ever-popular programme for veterinary practitioners and, back by popular demand after its debut year in 2017, a programme specifically for veterinary nurses.
Both symposia will be held on Wednesday 4th April, at the new venue of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Birmingham (next door to the International Convention Centre [ICC]), the day before the start of the BSAVA Congress. The change in venue will allow vets and nurses to take breaks and lunch at the same time, and all delegates will be provided with a buffet lunch.
This year’s veterinary programme has the theme ‘How do I approach…?’ and aims to provide vets with plenty of new ideas and techniques to use in practice. Running from 10.00am–6.00pm, the day is split into 45-minute presentations, with talks from Sophie Keyte (Langford Vets, University of Bristol), Séverine Tasker (Langford Vets, University of Bristol), Doug De Boer (University of Wisconsin), Laura Owen (University of Cambridge), Steph Lalor (Willows Veterinary Centre & Referral Service) and Jerzy Gawor (ARKA Veterinary Clinic, Krakow). Topics to be covered include: hyperadrenocorticism, FIP, otitis externa, otitis media, facial dermatoses, ketoacidosis, dental extractions and chronic gingivostomatits. At just £125 for ISFM members the day offers affordable CPD for those wishing to keep their feline knowledge up to date. Delegates also receive online proceedings, a buffet lunch, tea/coffee breaks and a CPD certificate of attendance.
The nursing programme is also split into easily digestible 45-minute sessions, with talks full of practical hints and tips to take back to practice. Topics covered are: blood types and transfusions, dentistry – preparation, monitoring and recovery, dentistry – descaling and polishing, cardiomyopathy, fluid therapy, emergency triage, running cat friendly nursing clinics and assisted feeding. The nursing programme costs just £95.00 and includes online proceedings, a buffet lunch, tea/coffee breaks and a CPD certificate of attendance.
ISFM is delighted to have the sponsorship from Hill’s Pet Nutrition and Ceva Animal Health for both symposia.
