At an awards ceremony at Kensington Roof Gardens in London on September 11, International Cat Care (iCatCare) and its veterinary division, the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM), presented three Distance Education Awards to the top students on its nursing and cat professional courses.
ISFM runs two distance education courses for veterinary nurses – the ISFM Certificate in Feline Nursing and the ISFM Diploma in Feline Nursing. The Certificate is completed over a year and the Diploma over two years. Students have to work very hard at a high level to achieve a pass and in recognition of this, each year ISFM presents the student with the highest score from each course with an award.
Winner of the highest mark on the Certificate went to Caroline Didi Ferrari from Wood Street Veterinary Hospital in Barnet, Hertfordshire, and the Diploma prize to Sophie Graham from Vale Vets, The Animal Hospital in Dursley, Gloucestershire.
The feline nursing courses are now being undertaken by nurses and technicians in many different countries, including, UK, Japan, Ireland, Singapore, Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, Hong Kong, Oman, South Africa, USA, United Arab Emirates and Austria.
International Cat Care also runs Cat Professional distance education courses in cat health and welfare. Melanie Wilson from Bristol achieved the highest mark in the Foundation Certificate in Cat Health and Welfare.
All three winners received bespoke plaques presented to them by Claire Bessant, iCatCare Chief Executive and Ian Williams from Royal Canin, sponsor of the nurse awards. Claire Bessant said: ‘These are not easy courses, people have to work very hard at a high level to achieve a pass, so these recipients are to be congratulated on the high levels they have achieved. The new knowledge they have obtained can be used directly in their work to improve the care of cats and to work more closely with their clients with cats.’
