‘Cat Naps’ photography competition winners announced

International Cat Care (iCatCare) is delighted to announce the 12 winning images of its 2016 photography competition ‘Cat Naps’. The winning pictures will now feature in the charity’s 2017 calendar.

Congratulations go to Viv Harding, Nic Howett, Crystal Moreno, Matthew Wong, Becky Wong, Patrycja Kuczynska, Johanna Vaurio-Teräväinen, Alexis-Kimonas Kokkinaris, Caroline Hooper, Phil Croucher, Lam Ying Loi and Paul Brown. The photographers represent six different countries – the UK, Hong Kong, Finland, Greece, USA and Canada. The overall winner of the competition will be announced at International Cat Care’s Annual Awards event in London on 15th July.

The competition, which ran for six weeks from the start of April, attracted a record number of entries, with a total of 3,400 pictures submitted by photographers from 51 different countries. This is easily the largest number of entries the charity has ever received in the four years that the competition has been running.

This year iCatCare, in conjunction with Your Cat magazine, was looking for images of cats napping, something cats certainly like to do! Images submitted included those of cats sleeping up trees, in flowerpots and even one of a cat napping on the back of a horse. The judges from iCatCare and Your Cat had the privileged but difficult task of whittling the entries down to a shortlist of just 40, from which the 12 winners were selected.

Jo Vuckovic, one of the iCatCare judges said, ‘This year’s entries were simply stunning and choosing just 12 to feature in our calendar was virtually impossible. The images we decided upon are a gorgeous mixture of kittens, owned cats and unowned cats, and each image really captures them enjoying their favourite pastime – sleeping! We were also looking for photographs which stand alone as pieces of art, whether that be due to unusual light, textures or colours, or an imaginative composition. We hope everyone enjoys them as much as we do.’

The 12 winners will receive £100 each and a selection of iCatCare merchandise. All winners will also be invited to the iCatCare Annual Awards where the overall winner will be announced, who will receive a cheque for £500 and a year’s subscription to Your Cat magazine.

As there were so many amazing entries this year, iCatCare has opened a public vote for a 13th winner to be chosen, which will feature at the end of the calendar. Voting is now open and will run until 2nd June. Vote for your favourite at: http://icatcare.org/photography-competition/vote
