Photography competition 2016

2016 photography competition overall winner

We have our overall winner!

Overall winner Johanna Johanna, pictured with Pitkis

Congratulations to Johanna Vaurio-Teräväinen from Finland, for this beautiful photograph of Pitkis.

Johanna rescued Pitkis as a kitten and he now lives with her in Nurmijarvi, Finland. Pitkis spends his time outside during the summer, rolling around and laying down for a nap almost anywhere...

This photograph of Pitkis was a unanimous favourite of the judges because of the stunning background colours and lovely Pitkis in the foreground looking so peaceful snoozing in such a weird but wonderful location.

As the overall winner of our Cat Naps photography competition Johanna received £500, a year's subscription to Your Cat Magazine, a selection of iCatCare goodies and her photograph of Pitkis featured on the cover of iCatCare's 2017 Cat Naps calendar – which was sold to raise funds for our charity.

About the competition

Our Cat Naps photography competition, run in association with Your Cat magazine, attracted a record number of entries, with a total of 3,400 pictures submitted by photographers from 51 different countries.

We were searching for beautiful, unique images of cats sleeping and resting and photographs submitted included those of cats sleeping up trees, in flowerpots and even one of a cat napping on the back of a horse!

The judges from iCatCare and Your Cat had the privileged but difficult task of whittling the entries down to a shortlist of just 40, from which the 12 winners were selected.

Jo Vuckovic, one of the iCatCare judges said, 'This year’s entries were simply stunning and choosing just 12 to feature in our calendar was virtually impossible. The images we decided upon are a gorgeous mixture of kittens, owned cats and unowned cats, and each image really captures them enjoying their favourite pastime – sleeping! We were also looking for photographs which stand alone as pieces of art, whether that be due to unusual light, textures or colours, or an imaginative composition. We hope everyone enjoys them as much as we do.’

The 12 amazing winners, of which Johanna is the overall winner can be viewed below. The remaining winners each received £100, a selection of iCatCare merchandise and also had their images featured in the Cat Naps calendar.
