Photography competition 2015

We have our winner! The overall winning photograph from the 2015 iCatCare Photography Competition is... 'Shy' by Hon Wa Yip, Hong Kong. Hon Wa Yip is involved in trap-neuter-return (TNR) work in Hong Kong and spends a lot of his time around feral cats. 'Shy' is a feral in one of Hon Wa Yip's TNR programmes (as demonstrated by his slightly tipped right ear). Shy is quite an independent cat who lives alone with no company, human or feline, but seems to prefer it that way. Hon Wa Yip and his uncle visit Shy to bring him food - he can be quite cautious when they approach, but curiousity always gets the better of him!

Congratulations Hon Wa Yip! This wonderful image, which the judges felt truly captured the beauty of Shy, will feature on the cover International Cat Care's 2016 calendar, themed The Beauty of Cats.

Hon Wa Yip received £500, plus receive a year's subscription to Your Cat Magazine, and had his picture feature on the cover of iCatCare's 2016 calendar.

Top photography competition entries

To celebrate International Cat Day (8 August 2015), International Cat Care created a gallery of the top images from the iCatCare photography competition. To view the images, please click here.

The charity had already posted the top 50 images from the competition on the iCatCare Facebook page, but wanted to share even more to celebrate the feline species.

About the competition

On 30 March 2015, International Cat Care’s photography competition returned for a third year, with bigger prizes and a brand new theme – The Beauty of Cats.

The charity, in conjunction with Your Cat and Digital Photographer magazines, was searching for beautiful, enchanting and unique images of cats to feature in a 2016 calendar (and other published material) that will be sold to raise funds for the charity’s welfare work.

The competition was run for the third successive year after overwhelming interest in the previous two years, which collectively attracted over 4,500 entries from all corners of the globe. Entrants had just over one month to enter, as the competition closed on 15 May 2015. Once again, 12 winning pictures were chosen to appear in the 2016 iCatCare calendar, with the overall winner featuring on the cover. Images entered into the competition may also be used to produce other materials. Any image used by International Cat Care will be credited to the photographer.

This year, the overall winner received £500, plus a year’s subscription to Your Cat Magazine and International Cat Care’s quarterly magazine ‘Cat Care’. Other competition winners received £100. All winners received a certificate, 3 copies of the iCatCare calendar and a selection of official iCatCare merchandise.

The winning pictures were chosen by a judging panel comprising the Chief Executive of International Cat Care and the editors of Digital Photographer and Your Cat magazines. Winning images may also appear in these publications.

The winners were announced 4-7 August 2015 and the images and calendar will be presented in September at the International Cat Care’s awards event in London.

Entrants agree that their photographic competition entries may be used in the 2016 International Cat Care Calendar and in other printed and online marketing materials for International Cat Care and its sublicensees in line with the charity’s aim of improving cat welfare and the care and understanding of cats.

High resolution images (over 350dpi) were required for print purposes and all images should be landscape.

Entrants agreed that their photographic entries may be freely used in publicity at International Cat Care events, to promote the competition and for any other purpose International Cat Care considers appropriate.
