At the start of this year we launched our International Declaration of Responsibilities to Cats. This document provides a clear framework to help everyone work together to protect cats all over the world.
The Declaration is a truly international document. It has been translated into 7 languages (French, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Slovenian and Spanish), with more translations in preparation. Currently the Declaration has over 24,000 signatures from people in 114 countries.
Recently, French and international companies at the 2018 FranceVet congress, as well as French vet and presenter Laetitia Barlerin, showed their support for the Declaration by signing it.
In addition, delegates at the recent assembly of the ANFI – the National Italian Cat Breeders Association – all signed the Declaration, showing their commitment to the responsibilities of breeders outlined in the document.
Francesca Serena, vet and member of the ANFI Health Commission, says the following:
“On April 28th, at the Assembly of Delegates in Bologna, Italy, the ANFI (National Italian Cat Breeders Association) made a very significant and important step by signing the ‘International Declaration of Responsibilities to Cats’, the reference document on general principles about cat welfare produced by International Cat Care (iCatCare).
ANFI believes that cat breeders have a moral obligation to take care of cats and their needs in an informed way. Therefore, it is the first of all the European feline clubs to officially commit as a whole organisation to the responsibilities outlined in iCatcare’s Declaration.
ANFI firmly believes in the commitment and collaboration of all those who care about the welfare of cats, and also believes that breeders must lead the way on this front. By signing the Declaration, ANFI wants to assert that the welfare of cats is at the heart of our association, which operates to create a different world for cats, where the knowledge of health problems and the willingness to improve the care of cats is combined with the commitment to the selection and knowledge of breeds.
The synergy between ANFI and iCatCare is important in order to establish a serious effort towards responsible and ethical breeding, create sustainable solutions to welfare issues and develop a class of breeders who are increasingly informed and trained, able to make correct and effective decisions for the improvement of selection and well-being of purebred cats.
ANFI encourage all members as breeders, owners and cat lovers to sign the Declaration and to show everyone their support of this document.”
