International Cat Care campaigns for better pain relief after neutering

International Cat Care’s veterinary division, the International Society of Feline Medicine, recently ran a campaign aimed at vets to remind them that cats need pain relief after neutering. Cats are often their own worst enemies when it comes to pain because they hide it so successfully and giving treatment to manage pain can be overlooked. Several scientific papers have highlighted that cats receive less pain relief than dogs and that much more can be done when considering the welfare and comfort of cats regarding pain.

The charity worked with appropriately named London ad agency ICC to produce the very eye-catching advertisement shown below. The advertisement was also highly commended at a recent industry advertising awards event.

As an owner you too can help your cat by talking to your vet about pain relief for your cat after neutering or any other treatment or operation where you feel it might be necessary. Vets who are ‘thinking cat’ will be only too pleased to tell you what they have done for pain management.
