MPs and peers in the UK have joined forces with animal welfare organisations, including International Cat Care, to campaign for feline welfare. The All Party Parliamentary Group on Cats (APGOCATS), which launched in March, will lobby for law changes to improve protection for cats and their owners.
International Cat Care looks forward to discussions with APGOCATS and is delighted that there is so much interest among Parliamentarians in the welfare of cats. International Cat Care will be raising issues such as breeding cats like Scottish Folds, which because of the gene mutation required to produce those turned down ears, will suffer from painful arthritis in joints. There has already been parliamentary interest in suffering of very flat-faced cats and dogs which will also add to the discussion. International Cat Care’s Patron Lord Black attended the meeting and has already been active in raising these issues in Parliament.
