#BeCatCurious International Cat Day 2022 strap line with pink star

A black and white cat peaks around a pink world

As custodians of International Cat Day, iCatCare is excited to announce the theme for 2022 is ‘Cat friendly resources’.

This year we’ve teamed up with world-renowned animal artist and illustrator Lili Chin to design educational materials to help us humans make sure we’re providing cats with the essential resources they need to stay physically and mentally healthy in a cat friendly way.

#InternationalCat Day #BeCatCurious

Get ready to meet some new feline faces along the way, as we introduce our two new ambassador cats Domino and McTatters.

Domino represents pet cats that live in a more traditional home environment whilst McTatters represents the unowned cats that will vary in the way they live and interact with humans (if choosing to at all).

The campaign will take place on social media @icatcare over 5 weeks, commencing 11th July, as we explore each of the following cat friendly resources:

  • Safe places

  • Travel

  • Scent communication

  • Toileting

  • Predatory behaviour (food and play)

Minding Mittens Bedtime Story

Join veterinary professional and author Aisling O’Keeffe for a reading of her wonderful children’s book ‘Minding Mittens’, which teaches children about cats and is packed full of adorable illustrations.

About the Author

Aisling O’Keeffe is a veterinary surgeon from cork, Ireland. She has worked in small animal practice since qualifying 7 years ago, including 3 years in a feline-only veterinary hospital and currently works in a busy small animal clinic near Cork City. She has achieved an advanced certificate in feline behaviour from the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) and a postgraduate certification in small animal medicine from University College Dublin.

She is passionate about feline behaviour and welfare and is keen to educate people on this topic. She got inspired to write the book after she completed her feline behaviour certificate. She learnt so much about cat behaviour that she wanted to share some of that information with others. Children are a great target audience for this as they don’t have any preconceived ideas about cats. They’re open to learning and to be educated about cats.

She has four cats, three dogs and two rabbits. She lives in an old renovated cottage in the country with her husband David.
