ISFM invests in nurses to improve cat care

The International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) is fast becoming the focus for veterinary nurses interested in improving their cat care. 90 nurses start ISFM’s distance learning Certificate and Diploma level nursing courses in February, with a second tranche in September. They will join over 400 from 17 countries who have already achieved or are currently undertaking these qualifications and aim to wear their ISFM badge with post nominals (DipFN or CertFN) with pride.

ISFM also launched free nurse membership in October 2014 and already over 3000 nurses from 47 countries have joined and have access to ISFM’s monthly digital journal Feline Focus, aimed exclusively at nurses and technicians. Over 300 regularly watch the free monthly webinars given by experts on topics from behaviour to preventive medicine, from understanding particular feline conditions to asepsis. Those who miss the live webinar can watch the recorded version online afterwards. Royal Canin supports both Feline Focus and the webinars. Any nurse can take advantage of this free cat-specific CPD by simply signing up for membership at www.icatcare.org/nurses/membership/apply.

Many nurses are also Cat Advocates for almost 200 Cat Friendly Clinics in the UK and have a major input to developing the cat business and care. More information on becoming a Cat Friendly Clinic can be found at www.catfriendlyclinic.org where lots of ideas and tips have recently been posted to help clinics through the process

The International Society of Feline medicine is the veterinary division of the charity International Cat Care.
