Cat Friendly Awards

International Cat Care recognises products which have made a real difference to cat wellbeing and welfare – these are the Cat Friendly Awards.

These are different to the Easy to Give awards which are limited to prescription only medicines (POMs) or methods of delivering POMs.

Award winners

2016

Lick-e-Lix (Webbox) provide a great method to give prescription medications to cats because of their different flavours.

Feliway Friends Diffusers (Ceva) contain a synthetic copy of the cat appeasing pheromone naturally produced by a nursing mother for her kittens after birth; helping kittens feel safe and secure.

Kittyrama Cat Collars (Kittyrama) are light weight, slim, durable and very comfortable. They also have a buckle for accurate fitting and a safety opening mechanism if the collar gets caught.

Beco Cat Bowls (Beco Pets) are made of recyclable waste plant materials and are wide with low sides so that the cat's sensitive whiskers are not bent while eating.

2015

SoftE Smart Collar (MDC Exports) is comfortable, cleanable and lightweight and allows free movement of the cat’s head as well as reducing banging into furniture, allowing the cat to behave more naturally and be less stressed.

SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder (SureFlap) opens in response to the cat’s microchip or special collar tag, allowing individual cats to access food or to keep food fresh.

Cat Carrier Tree (Royal Canin) allows cat baskets to be placed off the ground in waiting rooms, helping cats to feel less stressed.

2014

Sting Free Adhesive Remover (Trio Veterinary Healthcare) – an almost silent spray, which helps to release sticky dressings from skin, hair and fur. Its sister product Sting Free Skin Barrier is also included in the award.

Staywell PetPorte and Sureflap Microchip Cat Flaps – allow controlled entry and exits from our homes for individual cats (and prevent the entry of other cats) and also remove the need for the cat to wear a collar.

The Cat Activity Fun Board (Trixie) – provides stimulation for cats by encouraging them to use their paws and problem solving skills and is robust, stable non-slip, usable with wet or dry food and is dishwasher safe and easy to clean.

Agria Cat Insurance – making insurance more accessible, covers breeding and has waived age based restrictions for older rescue cats. Data from Agria on morbidity and mortality in cats from their insured population is also reported and presented gives back vital information from which we can all lean and progress.

2013

Feliway (Ceva Animal Health) – by mimicking the cat's natural facial pheromones, Feliway creates a state of familiarity and security. It can be used in different situations to help cats to feel more relaxed and reduce anxiety. It is used in veterinary practices, rescue situations, in catteries and in the home.

Hide, Perch and Go box (British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) – by watching how cats adapted to the highly stressful rescue environment in their first few days, BCSPCA’s Nadine Gourkow came to realise how important it was for cats to have somewhere to hide. By adapting the design of a simple cardboard box they came up with a product which provided somewhere for the cat to hide, or somewhere high to sit, and which could then be adapted to become the box in which the cat went to its new home. Maintaining the scent security which the cat had within the box reduces stress during transition to a new home. Designed around the cat’s need to hide and feel secure, this product marked the beginning of new thinking in rescue.

Feline Fort (Cats Protection) – the Feline Fort takes the concept of hiding and having a high vantage point a little further. It is durable and can be used in different ways in the home, veterinary practice or rescue situation.
